The Cardioid Microphone 4012 is a hi-voltage (130 V) condenser microphone with a linear frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz (±2 dB) and an incredible SPL handling capability of 168 dB SPL peak before clipping occurs. Type 4012 is acoustically identical with the popular Type 4011-TL, but differs in the powering method which enables the 4012 to handle these extreme sound pressure levels. The off-axis characteristics of the 4012 Cardioid Microphone are totally linear, a unique quality which has taken a lot of attention to obtain. The two microphones are acoustically identical, but differ in their sound level handling. Due to the higher voltage supplied for the preamplifier via the DPA HMA5000, the 4016 can handle 168 dB SPL peak before clipping occurs! It is designed with a linear on-axis frequency response from 40 Hz (±2 dB) to 20 kHz (+3/-2 dB) at 60 cm, with a soft high frequency lift from 10 to 15 kHz of max. 3 dB. The off-axis characteristics of the 4016 wide cardioid microphone are totally linear, a unique quality when it comes to authentic sound reproduction. Any leakage that occurs from off-axis sound sources is still a faithful reproduction of these sounds, just softly attenuated.

With an impressive frequency range from 10 Hz to 100 kHz (+0 dB/-1 dB) and an extremely wide dynamic range of 140 dB, the HMA5000 carries the clean and undistorted microphone pickup through the amplification link without any disturbance - the finest challenge for a mic amp. The HMA5000 is designed for use close to the microphones to keep microphone cables as short as possible, it therefore has an extremely compact, simple and rugged chassis design. Besides being a microphone amplifier with unsurpassed specs, HMA5000 is an extremely comprehensive microphone power supply unit with 130 V for the hi-voltage microphone preamplifiers, 190 V for capsule polarisation and 6 V for heater voltage in the 4041-T tube microphone. The gain range is from -20 dB to +30 dB by individual switches per channel. Also the phase can be reversed on both channels individually.
